Stakeholder: group parent company.
Business: the development of projects to capture and destroy methane gas escaping from landfill sites and coal mines. Turnover - €60m sales, 450 employees.
Objective: to realise value from two minor shareholdings acquired as part of a larger acquisition in 2006.
Process: a period of passive involvement was replaced by proactive shareholder management and a re-alignment of shareholder relationships. This, together with strong corporate governance controls, created a healthy tension between shareholders and led to an agreement by the majority shareholder to buy out the minority shareholdings.
Outcome: agreement was reached to exchange the minority shareholdings for operating assets.
